YOUTH AND RECREATION MILLAGE FACT SHEET
WHY?
Alpena County, City of Alpena and Alpena Public Schools, along with all other governmental agencies have experienced a severe drop in revenue sharing funds and other funds from the State of Michigan. Because of this; Alpena County, Alpena City, Alpena Public Schools, and many municipalities have not been able to fund youth programs such as 4H, Alpena County Plaza Pool, Alpena County Parks and other much needed programs. Many parents are now finding it more difficult to afford to have their children participate in these programs. With a dedicated source of funding Alpena County residents can be assured that their children, grandchildren or nieces & nephews could have the opportunity to participate in recreation programs.HOW MUCH WILL IT COST ME?
A property owner whose property is valued at $75,000.00 would expect an increase of $18.75 in their tax bill. Duration of the millage request is 4 yearsHOW WILL THE MONIES RAISED BE DISTRIBUTED?
An eight person committee will be appointed to the Youth and Recreation Committee. One appointment will be made from each County Commissioner District. The Y & R committee will review applications for funding and vote to fund requests for funding. Depending on the need and number of requests, programs could be either fully funded or partially funded. A simple application for funds will be made available to complete and submit.
