Our Recent Donations to the Plaza Pool  January 2023

FOPP donated 16 resistance belts to the Plaza Pool for use in deep water.  These belts can be used by anyone who wants to focus on core development and posture correction.

Aquatic resistance discs were donated to the Plaza Pool from donations and memorial gifts.  Every aquatic class can use these discs to increase water resistance for arms and legs.

Our current pool direction, Kim, demonstrates a sculpt class using the resistance discs.

Paza Pool Mural Project (UPDATE)

Since this project was announced, a new community pool is being designed, and hopefully completed within the next 3-4 years.  The mural that was being planned and funds raised will be incorporated within the new pool building.  Please watch for future announcements. (June 2023)

Mark Kinney and his leadership team are continuing to seek grants and putting together a list of service clubs and donors that would be willing to help fund a mural.  Our mission statement and regular fundraising keep us focused and the Plaza Pool operating, and in conjunction, Mark and his team have been able to write and secure mural funding from other avenues.  The Plaza Pool is here to stay, and we want our community to see us and enjoy the multiple benefits of the pool.

If you would like to donate money towards the mural, write a check to Friends of Plaza Pool with a note on the memo line that signifies the donation is going towards the mural, and place it into the blue FOPP box at the pool or mail to Carolyn Szatkowski at 1670 Long Rapids Road, Alpena, MI  49707 or you can also donate through the Community Foundation at:

Friends of Plaza Pool is a group of individuals who gain great benefit from the Alpena Plaza Pool. Join an organization which provides resources for the continuation of the county run pool.  In 2016 we had about 60 members who celebrated the pool staff, came together for social activities, sponsored a Saturday morning coached swim, and during the past three years, raised more than $60,000 to keep the pool open. We welcome members!  We request a membership donation of $15 for an individual, $30 for families.  We are MORE interested in your help!!  Join us!!
